For
the past eight years Christopher Ado has been publishing "Ado's
Horse Racing Report", providing the most detailed handicapping
coverage of the southern California racing circuit.
At the early age of 5, Chris began visiting the racetrack with his father. At
an age when most kids are reading Dr. Seuss, Chris was reading the Daily Racing
Form. The "Tiger Woods" of handicapping, was a child prodigy.
Chris's
handicapping skills paid for his college expenses at at U.C.
Riverside, and his love of numbers have led him to a career
in finance with Toyota.
Chris's credits the works of Andrew Beyer, James Quinn,
Dave Litfin, Brad Free, and Steve Davidotwitz with shaping him as a handicapper.
However, his biggest influence has been his mentor, Michael “The Wizard” Kipness. Kipness
has been guiding Chris through the world of betting horses since he was 16.
Ado uses a mix of speed, pace, class, and condition handicapping as well as trip
notes and race observations to come up with his selections. He also maintains
a Southern California Horse Racing notebook filled with result charts, track
profiles, trip notes, and trainer profiles.
When Chris Ado gives us a free pick, it will be a handicapping lesson that makes
you believe he is right there next to you. He will dissect the Racing Form -breaking
down the fractions of a particular race a horse exits, find horses that won the
battle but lost the war, identify horses that ran against the bias, or exited
a “key” race, and he will come up with trainer plays that others
overlook.
In each of Chris Ado's horse racing picks you will find three to five spot plays
in each card focusing on the races that offer the best opportunity to make money.
He will offer a detailed analysis of his top selections with a wagering strategy
focusing on making money. He will offer a daily double, Pick 3, and Pick 4 play.
Every time you wager on a race that Chris has identified as a "best play",
you can be confident that there is sound reasoning behind each selection. And
you can only find this type of free handicapping at Horsehats.com |

Ado’s Del Mar Handicap
Spot Play Selections, Analysis, and Wagering Strategies from Del Mar Aug
19, 2007 By Christopher Ado
Race 7: G2 Del Mar Mile Handicap, 1-Mile Turf, Three year olds and up
LANG FIELD (#9, 8-1) is the selection to take this field gate to wire
in the Del
Mar Mile Handicap a race part of the Win and Your In Series of the Breeders’
Cup. This gray gelding will attempt to buck the recent track profile for
this
distance of one mile on the turf. From the first twelve races at this
distance
through August 15 there has been only one gate to wire winner: Hoist the
Sail
(August 13, $5). Despite that track profile this gelding ran too good
to lose
when third beaten less than a length to Becrux and Zann in his prep for
this
race, Wickerr Handicap on July 27 here at Del Mar. If he is able to slow
down
through the first half mile of this event than expect this Art Sherman
trainee
to prove to be a difficult rival to reel in as he won his three previous
starts
on the turf when he has had the lead after the first half mile. After
winning
his previous two starts on the turf at Santa Anita he was successfully
able to
transfer that form to Hollywood Park when he took on Allowance N3X rivals
and
won nicely by three lengths. In that race he was able to establish an
uncontested lead through moderate half mile in 47.58 seconds. He was challenged
by the runner up, Corey County, approaching the quarter pole, turned that
one
away at mid stretch and came away in full stride to win going away. The
possibility of him racing gate to wire gave his connections confidence
to enter
him in the G1 Charles Whittingham on June 9 and a kamikaze speed duel
with over
matched Valiant Effort caused his demised. In that race, Valiant Effort
and
Lang Field hooked up to raced off to a long lead while dueling each other
into
submission after a half mile in 46.55 seconds and six furlongs in 1:10.24
seconds in a race where the first and second place finishers, After Market
and
Lava Man, returned to win the G1 Eddie Read and G1 Hollywood Gold Cup
respectively. After this failed debacle in that prestigious Grade I event,
he
was freshened up for the Wickerr Handicap and he ran a super race to be
third
in a race that set up for the closers Becrux and Zann as Lang Field probably
ran the best race in defeat to be third losing by only three-quarters
of a
length. He was able to secure a clear lead while establishing very fast
fractions, hung in tough when challenged by Zann and Becrux in deep stretch,
and tired in the final seventy yards to lose by only three-quarters of
a length
to be third in the meet’s fastest one mile on the turf this meet
(1:33.04).
Despite the final time what made Lang Field’s effort impressive
were the
fractions that this gelding establish and still hold third. He established
a
half mile in 45.89 seconds and six furlongs in 1:08.84 seconds which rank
as
the fastest half mile and six furlongs fractions from the first twelve
races at
this distance through August 15 which only make Lang Field’s effort
look even
better than what appears on paper. He meets no other rivals with that
type of
early speed in this event which should allow jockey Jon Court to place
this
gelding on the lead with moderate or little early pressure from Out of
Control
and if he is able to secure that lead without running a half mile in 45.89
or
six furlongs in 1:08.84 and slow it down early he can be able to produce
a
similar effort that he did back on May 10 which should be good enough
to win as
the likely theft candidate with our second preference, Crossing the Line,
attempting to reel in this dangerous gate to wire attempt.
