The old saying goes “a good horse can come from anywhere”.
Seattle Fitz has come from just about everywhere it seems.
Born and raised in Argentina, the son of Fitzcarraldo was
purchased by Terry Finley at the Pearls of Dubai sale in
the United Arab Emirates. Finley is founder and manager
of West Point Thoroughbreds, a racing syndicate.
Seattle Fitz provided Finley and the West Point shareholders
with their biggest win to date in the G2 Brooklyn Handicap
at Belmont Park on June 11. It was his second start since
surgery to correct a breathing problem and he defeated the
multiple stakes graded stakes winner Dynever by a determined
half-length.
"He out-ran them at every point of call, end of story,"
jockey Richard Migliore told The Blood Horse. "He was
the best horse and brought it to them. I told Kiaran (McLaughlin,
trainer) that I wouldn't mind being in front, as long as
he is comfortable and breathing. He can go fast and sustain
it, as long as you don't get into his mouth and inhibit
his breathing. I had a ton of confidence in this horse.
He deserved to win a race like this. I love getting on him
in the morning. He just exudes class."
Seattle Fitz had previously shown high class by winning
the G3 Aqueduct Handicap over G1-winner Evening Attire and
by taking the G3 William Schaefer Handicap on the 2004 Preakness
undercard.
