Preakness Stakes Saturday May 20 Pimlico Racetrack Baltimore, Maryland
Kentucky Derby Winners...Preakness Winners...Belmont Winners...Triple Crown Winners
Preakness Tickets The Preakness Stakes is the second jewel in the Triple Crown.  Run two weeks after the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness is the shortest of the Triple Crown races.  The Preakness distance is 1 3/16 miles, 1/16 of a mile shorter than the Kentucky Derby.  There have been 11 Triple Crown Winners, and 20 horses that have won both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness but went on to lose the Belmont.  There have been 50 horses who have won at least two of the triple crown races.  Recent history has given us several Triple Crown near misses; most recently with Smarty Jones in 2004.  Will Barbaro be the 21st horse to win both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness?  It has been 28 years since the last Triple Crown winner, Affirmed.  Horse racing fans are sure to make Barbaro the betting favorite for the Preakness and the sentimental favorite as well. No matter how many Preakness contenders show up to take on Barbaro this year, or what the odds are, America is ready for its next horse racing hero, one who can accomplish the most difficult task in all of Sports - win the Triple Crown.
