Horsehat.com Fast Fact: Lucky Pulpit’s sire, Pulpit, was the post time favorite for the 1997 Kentucky Derby won by Silver Charm.

Lucky Pulpit is perhaps the most versatile three year-old colt in America. He has won sprint races at 5 ½ furlongs, on both the turf and the dirt and has placed in a pair of two-turn Graded stakes races, again on both turf and dirt. However, it was his most recent performance that have his connections dreaming of roses on the first Saturday in May.
In the G2 Santa Catalina on January 17, Lucky Pulpit pressed the early pace through fast fractions. At the top of the stretch he took over the lead himself and held it until deep stretch, where he grudgingly gave way to the ultra-talented St. Averil. Lucky Pulpit did hold second by two lengths to the promising Master David. In his subsequent start that rival came back to win the Sham Stakes over last year’s Eclipse Champion Juvenile Action This Day.
Lucky Pulpit will run next in the March 6 San Rafael (G2). In preparation for that engagement he worked six furlongs in 1:13 at Santa Anita on February 24
"I got him the last quarter in :23 and one and him galloping out in 1:26 and change," Trainer Clifford Sise told Bloodhorse.com. "He's doing really well right now; I could run him today. All I have to do is keep him happy and healthy until the race."
