Champion Declan's
Moon returns to action on Sunday
Unbeaten champion Declan's Moon was entered in Hollywood
Park's first race Sunday at 6 ½ furlongs by trainer
Ron Ellis. It would be the 4-year-old gelding's first start
in more than 16 months.
After wrapping up the 2004 Eclipse Award for 2-year-old
males with a victory in the Hollywood Futurity (gr. I),
Declan's Moon began his sophomore campaign by winning the
Santa Catalina Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita in March
2005. But an injury sent him to the sidelines and he endured
several setbacks on the comeback trail.
Declan's Moon has spent most of the meet training at Santa
Anita but was brought across town Sunday for a five-furlong
bullet work in :59.
Carrying 119 pounds in his return, Declan's Moon starts
from post 4 and has four tough rivals in the $100,000 optional
allowance/claiming race: Yes He's a Pistol, Desert Boom,
Seattle Buddy, and Areyoutalkintome. Regular rider Victor
Espinoza retains the call.
Owned by Mace and Samantha Siegel's Jay Em Ess Stable,
Declan's Moon has won all five of his starts and earned
$627,300.
